The town of Ruthin boasts many attractions, it has more listed buildings than any other market town in North Wales, and there are several delightful old buildings in St Peter's Square (just a two minute stroll away). The Square is the focal point of the town and is home to the Clock Tower erected in 1885. There are seats in the square where you can sit and watch the world go by, or simply enjoy the delightful views of the Welsh countryside.

Ruthin

Visit

The Ruthin Craft Centre: Described as a “dynamic zinc and cast stone building with undulating roofs to echo the surrounding Clwydian hills.” It has three galleries, six artist studios, retail gallery, education and residency workshops, tourist information gateway and café with courtyard terrace.

A walk around St Peters Square reveals the Maen Huail (King Arthur's stone) where it is said Huail, brother of Gildas, was beheaded for crossing King Arthur in love. It is said only moss grows on the stone where the blood of Huail had trickled.

RUTHIN GAOL

Another visitor attraction is the Ruthin Gaol, modelled on Pentanville, is ceased to be a prison in 1916, it was last used during WW2 as a munitions factory and is well worth a visit.

NANT-CLWYD Y DRE

Each of the ‘Seven Ages’ of Nantclwyd’s history is evoked by recreated and fully-furnished rooms. Visitors start in the 1942 hall, then the 1916 rector’s study and 1891 schoolroom, to the splendid panelled and Chinese-wallpapered Georgian bedroom suite.

Walk

We have several walks and pathways, both in Ruthin and in the surrounding area. If you require assistance, we will only be too happy to recommend and lend you OS maps if you wish to go further afield.

If you don't feel like venturing out, why not relax with one of our books in our garden and and enjoy the views of the Clwydian Range beyond. Alternatively, why not relax in one of the nearby Spa's.

Ruthin is lucky to have several top class restaurants  including one in the Michelin Guide, as well as more relaxed places to eat. All within walking distance from Sarum House. We will only be to happy to advise and make reservations for you.
